New Delhi : BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is known as brand Namo today worldwide, but he has very Heart touching past of his life.

Modi's full name is Narendra Damodardas Modi and he was born on 17 September 1950 to a family of grocers belonging to the backward Ghanchi-Teli (oil-presser) community, in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of what was then Bombay Presidency and the state of Gujarat now.

Modi helped his father sell tea at Vadnagar railway station when a child and as a teenager he ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus. India-Pakistan War Breaks out. Narendra Modi serves tea at Mehsana Railway Station to Jawans who are going and coming from the border.

He completed his schooling in Vadnagar, where a teacher described him as being an average student, but a keen debater who had an interest in theatre. That interest has influenced how he now projects himself in politics. 

Modi's parents arranged his marriage as a child, in keeping with the traditions of the Ghanchi caste. He was engaged at the age of 13 to Jashodaben Chimanlal and the couple were married by the time he was 18. They spent very little time together and were soon estranged because Modi decided to pursue an itinerant life.


Then he leaves home and travels across India including the Himalayas, Rishikesh, Ramakrishna Mission, Northeast. After then he takes a conscious decision to devote his entire life towards service of the nation and Joins the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1972.


In 1974 active participant of Navnirman Movement, a youth movement against corruption in Gujarat. In 1975 Narendra Modi gets fully involved in anti-Emergency struggle under Jayaprakash Narayan. Becomes integral part of Gujarat Lok Sangharsh Samiti (GLSS), a movement to restore Democracy. 

After Modi had received some RSS training in Nagpur, which was a prerequisite for taking up an official position in the Sangh Parivar, Gets more responsibility in the Sangh. Becomes ‘Vibhag Pracharak’ and asked to work in Vadodara and Central Gujarat in 1978.
 

Now The Bharatiya Janata Party was born and modi came into contact with Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda, leaders of the Jan Sangh who later founded the BJP's Gujarat state unit. Modi Becomes ‘Sambhag Pracharak’ and given additional region of South Gujarat and Surat as focus area in 1980.


After that modi started Nyay Yatra to fight for rights of the poor. Begins work for 1989 Lok Sabha Elections. Modi has Join BJP as Organisation Secretary of Gujarat Unit in 1987 and Active role in organisation work for elections to various civic bodies. BJP wins AMC elections for 1st time.


In 1991 Ekta Yatra commences. Yatra led by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi. Yatra aimed at national integration and giving a strong message to anti-India elements. Moves to Delhi as National Secretary. Given charge of various North Indian states Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab in October 1995.

BJP secures majority in Gujarat Assembly Elections, winning 121 seats. As Organisation secretary, Narendra Modi plays a very important role in 1995. Now modi Becomes National General Secretary (Organisation), a prestigious Party post held by stalwarts like Shri Kushabhau Thakre and Shri Sunder Singh Bhandari in the past in 1998.


in 1999 BJP secures consecutive victories in Lok Sabha elections under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. As General Secretary (Organisation), Narendra Modi actively involved in the campaign that led to BJP’s victories. After this modi Sworn in as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on 7th October 2001.

BJP wins 2007 Gujarat Assembly Elections. Narendra Modi sworn-in as CM for 3rd time and Modi in 2007. Leads BJP to yet another victory in the Gujarat Assembly Polls. Becomes CM for 4th time in 2012.


On 13th September 2013 BJP declares Narendra Modi as the PM candidate of the Party for 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. After this Addresses historic Hunkaar Rally in Patna. In the midst of live bombs, gives a message of peace and inclusive development. Record attendance despite the life threat.
