Zee Cine Awards 2016 : 'Bajirao Mastani' has picked up a total of 19 nominations
Zee Cine Awards 2016 have come out swinging this year with a set of nominations that pay ode to credible performances and films ahead of sheer star power. This means films like 'Dilwale' and all those connected with it have been (rightly) ignored.
Ditto for other box office hits like 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' among others. Instead of these star-studded films, Zee Cine has nominated smaller but better films like 'Badlapur', 'Talvaar', 'Masaan' and 'Margarita with a Straw'.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus 'Bajirao Mastani' has picked up a total of 19 nominations including Best Actor for Ranveer Singh and Best Actor (Female) nods to both Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. And speaking of Deepika Padukone, she has picked up two major acting nods, one for Piku and the other for Bajirao Mastani.
Masaan nabbed a total of 10 nominations while Piku has earned 5 nods including Best Film. While Talvaar didn’t earn a Best Film nod, its director Meghna Gulzar has made it to the Best Director category.
The category of Best Actor (Male) is competitive and hard to predict since superstars Amitabh Bachchan (Piku) and Ranveer Singh (Bajirao Mastani) are joined by Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Badlapur), Vicky Kaushal (Masaan) and Irrfan Khan (Piku).
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has also picked up a Supporting Actor nod for his performance in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and will give Filmfare winner Anil Kapoor (Dil Dhadakne Do) a tough time.
Perhaps the only glaring omission is that of Tamasha – actor Ranbir Kapoor and director Imtiaz Ali certainly earned an acting and directing nod, respectively for their superb effort. Anushka Sharma’s performance in NH 10 also deserved to be recognized.
In music categories, Rahman’s Tamasha and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy’s Dil Dhadakne Do OST goes up against the popular sounds of Amaal Malik’s Roy, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani soundtrack and Anu Malik’s tunes in Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
