The former key aide of Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan arrested in Indonesia

Jakarta : The boss of a major crime syndicate based in India, Indian fugitive Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, better known as Chhota Rajan and also as 'NANA', has been arrested in Indonesia after decades on the run. Chhota Rajan was a former key aide and lieutenant of Dawood Ibrahim.

According to reports, wanted in a number of murder cases, Rajan was on Sunday detained as he arrived in the popular resort island of Bali from Sydney, the report quoted Bali police spokesman Heri Wiyanto as saying.

He said that, the 55-year-old Rajan had been on the run for two decades, with Interpol flagging him as a wanted man back in 1995.

He also said that, “We received information from police in Canberra yesterday about the red notice for a murderer, We arrested the man at the airport. What we know is that this man was suspected to have carried out 15 to 20 murders in India.”

The report also said that, Bali police were coordinating with Interpol and Indian authorities, as Wiyanto said, adding it was likely Rajan would be deported to India.

Rajan was born into a Marathi family in Mumbai and grew up in the lower middle class locality of Tilaknagar in Chembur. He started his criminal career by scalping cinema tickets at Sahakar cinema in the 1980s.
