HTC's new smartphones HTC One A9 to challenge Apple !

Taipei : Taiwanese multinational manufacturer of smartphones and tablets, HTC Corporation unveiled a new flagship model today, taking on Apple's latest iPhones, but analysts say it's unlikely to boost the struggling company's market share.

The HTC One A9 will go on sale starting November and has been priced at $399.99 (approximately Rs. 26,000) for the unlocked version. There's no word yet on India price and availability. US pre-orders for the HTC One A9 kicked off Tuesday via the company's online store.

The HTC One A9 has a 13-megapixel camera, and is the first non-Nexus phone to use Google's newest operating system. The homegrown Taiwanese brand, once a star of the smartphone sector, is suffering losses as it grapples with intense competition from Samsung, Apple and rising Chinese brands.

The company is taking action to turn its business around, which involves job cuts and streamlining its product offerings to focus on high-end phones.

CEO of HTC, Cher Wang said in a statement, "We are unveiling a phone that stands apart in a market increasingly dominated by a company which controls every aspect of your phone." He had even claimed that the new One smartphone could be a good "alternative to the iPhone.

The HTC One A9 is built around a 5" AMOLED screen of 1080p resolution and is the first to run on the Snapdragon 617 chip. The SoC employs an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.5GHz and another four A53 ticking at 1.2GHz, Adreno 405 GPU and 2 or 3 GB of RAM depending on the version.
