Google dedicates a Doodle to Cartoonist R K Laxman on his 94th birthday
Cartoonist Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Laxman best known as RK Laxman was an Indian cartoonist, illustrator, and humorist. He was best known for his creation ‘The Common Man’. So, Google pays tribute to him on his birthday by dedicating a black-and-white Doodle, featuring him and his famous creation, ‘The Common Man’.
The doodle, just like Laxman’s sketches which created history -- depicts a studio in three parts, comprising his work desk, the artist sitting on a chair drawing his famous ‘Common Man’ on a vertical canvas, with the Common Man peeping from behind, and a collection of work canvasses shown at the end.
When you click on the doodle it takes you to the search page where numerous sites are listed giving away information related to him and his compositions.
“We are very pleased and happy that Google has honoured his memory today with a dedicated doodle,” the cartoonist’s daughter-in-law Usha Srinivas Laxman said.
Notable, R K Laxman was bron on 24 October in 1921 in Mysuru. His father was a headmaster and Laxman was the youngest of six sons, an older brother is the famous novelist R K Narayan. Laxman was known as ‘Pied Piper of Delhi’.
Laxman started his career as a part-time cartoonist, working mostly for local newspapers and magazines. While a college student, he illustrated his elder brother R K Narayan's stories in The Hindu. His first full-time job was as a political cartoonist for the The Free Press Journal in Mumbai. Later, he joined The Times of India, and became famous for ‘The Common Man’ character.
