Jaipur : The 'Piku' actress Deepika Padukone, says "Deewani Mastani song is inspired by ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ in a sense. We have tried to recreate the Aaina Mahal in the song. But it’s also a Sanjay Leela Bhansali take on a contemporary version of the song where Mastani is completely besotted and madly in love with Bajirao."

The 29-year-old actress was at the historical 'City Palace' in the capital of Rajasthan, where she launched the song 'Deewani Mastani' from her upcoming historical romantic movie 'Bajirao Mastani', this evening.

The actress said, "The song is inspired by 'Mughal-e-Azam' and its famous song “Jab pyar kiya toh darna kya...'. The song is almost nasheela. It doesn’t matter to her where she is or who is watching her. She is like a horse with blinkers. She has eyes for no one else but this one man who is sitting in front of her. She is intoxicated by love.”

She said that, "the song is a tribute to K Asif’s grand picturisation of 'Jab pyar kiya toh darna kya', a tense moment in the classic, where Anarkali finally challenges Mughal emperor Akbar by openly declaring her love for his son Salim.

“This song is my grandest song, in terms of sheer scale...  Within the movie itself, this song is probably the grandest thing that we have done. We had the maximum number of visitors on this, it almost became like a museum." she said.

In the historical romantic movie 'Bajirao Mastani', Deepika Padukone will play Bajirao’s second wife Mastani, while Priyanka Chopra will play the role of Bajirao’s first wife Kashi Bai. Ranveer Singh will be seen in the Bajirao's role. The movie is slated to release on 18th December of this year.
