BMW rolls out X5 M and X6 M @ Rs 1.5 crore onwards
“Inspired by motorsport, M is one of the most coveted badges and has shaped the history of performance automobiles. The next chapter will begin now with the all-new BMW X5 M and the all-new BMW X6 M raising the bar for high-performance sports cars with highly emotive design, increased output and outstanding efficiency,” said Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India, at the launch.
The BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M will have the combined characteristics of the BMW X series and the M range of cars.
The M’s design characteristics emphasize the sporty driving experience, and come with a 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine, similar to the one that powers the M5 sedan and M6 Gran Coupe.
The German carmaker’s other performance cars include the M3 sedan and M4 coupe.
With Rs.490 crore invested in India, the premium carmaker will continue to invest more in the country. “India is stable with a potential for long-term growth and we will focus on localization,” said von Sahr. “Ninety-five per cent of the BMWs that you see on Indian streets are produced in Chennai,” he added.
Earlier this month, BMW India launched the ‘BMW M Studio’ in Mumbai, dedicated exclusively to the BMW M brand and its entire range of products. By 2016 end, similar studios will be opened in seven locations across the country.
