New Delhi : Born on August 13, 1963, Sridevi was named Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan in Saksi, Tamil Nadu. Sridevi has been called Hindi cinema's first superstar heroine. Sridevi's mother was named Rajeshwari and her father, Ayyapan, was a lawyer.
She had two step brothers and a sister. Sridevi has said that she never had a normal childhood and that she had no friends. The only people she trusted were her parents and her sibling.
Sridevi made her debut at the age of 4 in the Tamil movie Thunaivan as a young Murga. She made her Bollywood debut in 1975 in the movie Julie. Her first lead role was in the Tamil movie Moondru Mudichu directed by K Balachander. In 1979 she starred in the Hindi movie Solva Saawan.
She was labelled 'Thunder Thighs' after starring, in 1983, in the super hit movie Himmatwala. Her famous song in the movie Naino Mein Sapna, was all the rage. After giving another hit Tohfa the following year, Sridevi established herself as the Bollywood’s number 1 actress.
