Shimla : Himachal Pradesh police have sounded an alert along the borders it shares with Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir following a militants’ attack at a police station in Gurdaspur district, Punjab.

Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar said, “We have alerted in all the border districts’ SPs and IGP at Dharamshala (Kangra). They have been asked to introduce special checking at all entry points and post armed men at the barriers/nakas , to step up vigil.”

The districts alerted include Chamba, which borders with Kishtwar, Bhadarwah of Jammu & Kashmir, and Kangra and Una districts, bordering Punjab. DGP said alert has also been sounded among intelligence agencies and other deployments in the areas.

“We will hold a review meeting later in the day to take stock of the situation in the neighbouring state and will propose measures accordingly” Sanjay Kumar said.

Early this morning reportedly at least 13 people, including a superintendent of police (SP), were killed and 10 injured when heavily armed terrorists wearing army fatigues hijacked a car, drove down to Dinanagar town in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district bordering Pakistan, opened fire at a bus stand and then stormed a police station.
