Garli (Himachal) : Before leaving for Manipur two months ago, Lans Naik Rajneesh Singh had told his wife that they would shift to a new house the next time he would come.

The two had planned that they would organise a “Dham” to treat friends and relatives before entering the new house at their native village Muhin near Garli in Dehra Sub Divison of Kangra District of Himachal Pardesh. While leaving home, Rajneesh did not know that it would be his last visit. The soldier was killed in the ambush on June 4.

His wife Samita Kumari said, she did not wish to move into the new house without her husband. Gloom descended on the house of Lans Naik Rajneesh Singh (35) at Garli village, 60 kilometres from Dharamsala. Rajneesh had called his wife at 7 am yesterday, two hours before being killed by terrorists in Manipur.

A wailing Samita said the news reached them last evening. He came home two months ago. “It was his last visit home. I still can’t believe that he is no more,” said Samita Kumari. Rajneesh is survived by his wife, two sons aged 10 and 12.

He was the sole breadwinner of the family and was youngest among four brothers. Villagers gathered at his house to console the family. The dead will arrive late in the evening and the cremation is likely to take place Sunday at his native village.
