Maria Sharapova experiences new Porsche Boxster Spyder

London : The megastar player of Tennis Maria Sharapova who is ranked world No. 4 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), dropped by the Porsche Centre in West London to experience the new Boxster Spyder. On hand was a left-hand drive Boxster Spyder, which was apparently visiting the UK for a few days only. Sharapova who is a Porsche brand ambassador, seemingly didn't have a chance to get behind the wheel, but no doubt enjoyed being a passenger anyway on a short drive, anyway.

Maria Sharapova piloted the Boxster Spyder around the streets of London's Mayfair district and was visibly impressed. "This is huge fun – truly thrilling,” said the five-time Grand Slam winner after the test drive. "I love that this new Boxster Spyder is like a classic sports car, but at the same time feels so modern and sophisticated. It’s a fantastic car and I need to get one!."

The Boxster Spyder features a classic fabric roof, which is opened and closed by hand, and is available only with a manual transmission.

Porsche says the new Spyder is both the most powerful and the fastest Boxster it has ever created. With 375 horsepower—45 more than the Boxster GTS and 10 fewer than the Cayman GT4—from a naturally aspirated, 3.8-liter flat-six borrowed from the 911 Carrera S and a top speed of 180 mph, the numbers back up the boast. The larger, more-powerful engine also is shared with the GT4, and it trumps the 3.4-liter unit from the S and GTS as the displacement champ in Boxster-dom.

The company said that, The distinctive design of the Boxster Spyder includes stylistic elements that recall the legendary sports and race cars from Porsche. For example, as a tribute to the 718 Spyder from the 1960s, the new Boxster Spyder has two prominent streamlined bulges that extend down along the long rear lid behind the headrests. 

The partially manually operated, lightweight top is suitable for everyday use and brings to mind roadsters from the past, while the fins that stretch back to the rear lend the vehicle’s silhouette its characteristic design.
