'Bombay Velvet' has just the right dose of romance, action and drama'
"Bombay Velvet is an out-and-out romantic thriller. It is the story of Johnny (Ranbir Kapoor), Rosie (Anushka Sharma), and the villain that looms large over their romance, Khambatta (Karan Johar)," says Anurag. Ranbir feels it is essentially a romantic film with corruption and politics of the 60s forming its backdrop.
"To play a gangster, I was required to get into the skin of the character. I have done action for the first time, and wielded a Tommy gun (Thompson submachine gun). This film doesn't have song-and-dance romance, but it tells a passionate love story that is obsessive, yet innocent. It's a very pure form of romance," says the actor Ranbir kapoor.
Agreeing with Ranbir, Anushka adds, "The story is about whether Johnny and Rosie's romance will survive, despite it being pitted against the brute force of the villain, who tries to tear them down. Their lives get entangled in a heinous plot that threatens their romance. The twists and turns are sharp and very clever. I loved being part of this film."
'Bombay Velvet' is an adaptation of Gyan Prakash’s book ‘Mumbai Fables’ and narrates the story of how the city became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music, which is slated to release on May 15.
