FDI in e-commerce will kill 'Make in India' : Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman, DIPP, CAIT, Department of Ministry of Commerce, Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman,
New Delhi : In its bid to ascertain view point of cross section of stakeholders on issue of allowing FDI in E Commerce, the DIPP Department of Ministry of Commerce today held a meeting with stakeholders which was chaired by Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and was attended by representatives from Trade & Industry Association, E Commerce service provider Companies beside senior Officials from Ministry of Commerce, Finance, MSME, I&B, etc.

Addressing the meeting Sithraman said that Government has an open mind on the issue. Using technology as a positive catalyst for growth of Make in India is the ultimate object but at the same time any policy should not lead to greater imports in the Country.

She also said that India being a Federal Country, it has come to the knowledge that States have their own concerns and as such they are using different parameters. One reason of such a situation may be absence of a National level Policy.

However, the Government is looking at the issue from every angle and soon the DIPP will have Inter-Ministry consultations on various issues connected with the subject. She assured that the Government will have regular inter-action with stakeholders.
