Samsung launches its first Tizen smartphone in Rs 5,700

New York : Just a day after there were reports that South Korean multinational conglomerate company Samsung will launch its Z1 smartphone in India this week, the device has been launched with a price tag of INR 5,700 ($92). It is the company’s first Tizen OS-based smartphone in the country, and is available in White, Black, and Wine Red colour options.

Samsung launched its first Tizen (pronounced "tie-zen") smartphone Last week in the budget segment in India. The Z1 runs on Tizen 2.3 operating system and is priced at Rs 5,700. Tizen is a Linux-based operating system is developed to compete with Android. 

Samsung Z1 runs on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 768MB RAM and 4GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 64GB. The Z1 Tizen Smartphone offers a 3.1MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. It is available in White, Black and Wine Red colour options from January 14.

The Smartphone is light and handy. It measures 120.4 x 63.2 x 9.7 mm and weighs 112 grams. The Z1 Smartphone sports a 4-inch WVGA PLS display. Tizen comes with its own app store called Tizen Store. It has over 1000 apps currently. Android apps don’t work on it. 


However, certain Android apps (like WhatsApp) will work via Open Mobile ACL. Note that Tizen is completely a different OS. It is powered by a 1500mAh battery and comes with regular connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 and GPS.

On the software side, the smartphone features built-in AntiVirus protection, an Ultra Power Saving Mode to extend the battery life, and free access to Hungama music for three months, as well as premium content though Club Samsung. It also lets you send SOS alerts, something which can be done by pressing the power button four times.
