Mumbai : An Indian classical musician, playback singer K J Yesudas is celebrate his birthday on 10th of January and he turned 75 on the day. K.J. Yesudas, whose soul-stirring renditions have mesmerised music lovers the world over.

Yesudas, along with his wife, Prabha, and sons Vinod and Vijay, had arrived in the temple town on Friday evening. Reaching the temple around 9.45 a.m., he sang enchanting hymns and bhajans for nearly 30 minutes at a podium in the temple. 

A special concert, led by musician Kanhangad Ramachandran and attended by musicians from Kerala and outside, was held later, which went on till 2 p.m. A large number of pilgrims and music lovers had congregated at the temple to join the birthday celebration.

K.J. Yesudas is an Indian classical musician, playback singer and this legend playback singer dominated the film industry for nearly five decades. He sung in nearly 70,000 songs in various languages of India including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Punjabi, Marathi, Tulu, Arabic, Russian and Latin.

He is fondly called as Gana Gandharavan. He was honored with National Award for the Best male Playback Singer seven times, Padma Bhushan (2002), Padma Shri (1975) and the State Award for the Best Playback Singer 43 times, by the state governments of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and west Bengal. He is the only singer who has been accorded the title Asthana Gayakan of Kerala state.


Yesudas began a cross-country musical campaign against terrorism in Thiruvananthapuram with the motto ‘Music for Peace’. He acted as cultural ambassador for India through his performances in abroad by promoting Indian music.
