Gurgaon : Amid security threats to malls and five-star hotels in the Millennium City, the Gurgaon police carried out surprise checks on three prominent commercial establishments on Sunday to identify security glitches ahead of New Year’s Eve.

ACP (Crime) Rajesh Chechi said three different teams of the Gurgaon police - comprising a dog squad and a Swat team each - carried out security checks at Ambience Mall, MGF Mall and Hotel Leela Kempinski.

Chechi added that, by and large, the police were satisfied with the security cover of the respective commercial establishments. However, they recommend stronger security cover.

“There were 90 police personnel from bomb squad, dog squad, SWAT and commando unit of the Haryana Police who took part in the surprise checks - from 2 to 6pm - at three high-profile premises. Though, the police teams did not find anything fishy to be concerned about, we still suggest managements of respective malls and hotels to strengthen their security to ensure safe year-end celebrations,” ACP said.

Though the local police said that the surprise checks were a routine exercise to examine security cover at prominent commercial establishments, sources said central security agencies have alerted the Gurgaon police about possible terror strikes at prominent places.
